'The Path' created by writer Jessica Goldberg. (The Way or "La Voie" in french).

Cast: Aaron Paul (Eddie Lane), Michelle Monaghan (Sarah Lane), Hugh Dancy (Cal Roberts), Emma Greenwell (Mary Cox), Kyle Allen (Hawk Lane), Sarah Jones (Alison), Rockmond Dunbar (Abe Gaines)... (see Full cast)

"I want your Faith!"

PLOT: apparently simple, but with a fascinating complex sub-plot to the drama.
I mean, It's a real thriller.
"The Path", a.k.a "The Way" La Voie en français dans le texte, written by the very inspired Jessica Goldberg takes us at first sight in a cult or whatever "pseudo religion" universe , which is seen from the inside.
So yes, apparently no big deal so far, but...never say "les carottes sont cuites" before you have ever tasted "le plat chaud".

------------
Quotes, written by Pierre Sérisier on his blog, in the 'great' journal Le Monde.
(yes, I love to quote "french reviewers" on US/foreign series, it's my thing...)

-"The first three episodes are marked by a constant hesitation, as if the series looked for its way without resolving to take a stand."
(Oh! Pierre! U def' like it the rough way?! Ouch! U luv' whipping urself 2? )
-(...) "The Path appears itself, arid, dry and disembodied."
(end of quote... LOLOL)
(Um, in fact no! Not so great to me, les amis!
And Pierre...please, I strongly suggest you to stop watching The Path 'cause you're obviously gonna pass out w/o your happy pills.
*whispering to ur ear: "There are 10 episodes and it's only Season 1. So go get ur cross & chase some sins of urs, okay? Yes! In ur secret basement...")

-------------

Back to the 'witnessing a cult from the inside'.

So, as I said before, this is not of course a new concept in film writing. However, the idea seemed to me much more than a little bit tempting, it was indeed even really exciting.
And by the way, speaking of holy spirit(s) or various beliefs, I was immediately attracted to the whole writing on this famous cult, because it just so happens that I have no religion.

THIS is an AMAZING Scenario!

~The way it was written is indeed what caught my eye/attention first.~
The author, I insist, did an extremely good work, especially when she strewed several different aspects of understanding everywhere in her scenario.
So whereas you think you're going to watch something you had imagined you already knew, because who doesn't already know about cults? --- and I'm pretty sure Jessica Goldberg had planned this surprising twist in that drama --- then all of the sudden, you are embarked on a very unexpected journey to an utterly strange land of catastrophic secrets, scary lies and deeply frightening dark desires:
"I want The Power",
"I want Your Soul",
and finally "Faith is The Real Enemy".
What an incredible turn of events here! (= retournement de situation, Pierre!)
So yes! I was definitely hooked!
It is creepy, really intelligent, and I even loved the imperfections too.

The first three episodes are remarkable! (finished episode 4 btw)
Since the very beginning, it's too late, you can not escape.
I couldn't look away, me + myself + I. (^-^). What?
It's important to divide yourself so to be able to have three different opinions you are to debate on, after, or later. It doesn't matter anyway!
Triple Thrilled! or Tripolar? LOL x 3!
Whatever!
-Me:
"Oh I don't know if I'd like to join them? I'm vegan...Hey! Yo Guys! Don't you think the pretty son looks like Heath Ledger, right?".(eating her fourth banana)
-Myself: "I can not tell the truth to I or Me! They're gonna kill my true-self".(on permanent diet...in her head)
-I :
"Oh-Lee-Shit! According to Twitter analytics, my viewers activities show...*sobbing*".(doesn't give a shit about followers in fact, blocking herself from following herself too, *tweeirdoe* made this word up just for fun)

And "la cerise sur le gâteau", you can at last get why there are these three identities or names: the father, the son and the holy spirit, among ECT religions.
The father is gone somewhere you don't really know where exactly, the son dies repeatedly every Sunday (but why on Sundays? I so wanted to sleep!!), and the holy spirit?, well this guy is pretty horrifying because he is doing nothing but floating here, there and/or over there too..., and he is constantly watching you...? Argh! What? What kind of religion is that?
I'm so glad I took Algebra and gardening at primary school anyway.

There is a powerful untold world which is progressively shown up to you.
And, as you start seeing what's happened in the devastated place after the tornado blew it all, you slowly understand that something is going wrong.
Who are those quiet people helping? Weird...
The atmosphere gives you several strong hints that draw a second bizarre picture on the real intentions hidden behind all that kindness.
The Path is about doubting of course, but it's first about learning psychological aspects of one's self whether you're in a cult, a religion or in any situation referring to your life.
Basically, it is about people lying most of the time, 'believing' in things they don't want to really know about (What? Wow! That's interesting, right?) or understand (Seriously?! Now I'm really scared of you all!), and whatever your social rank or profile could be, 'you' are indeed all alone and not free at all.
How cool is that now?!
Hence I was right. The writing is really really excellent. So are all the actors in that series. I could clearly feel the ties between the story-lines, the filming, the acting, the music, etc. There's something powerful you can't deny, because it's obvious.
When such a script becomes the real first "Hero" of whatever any TV Shows, then you must admit, the author of The Path is a genius writer who successfully managed to put her ideas on the top of it first. And it's indeed something new because It has never or rarely been done before, well at least in a series.

This is basically how I felt about it. Brilliant writing. Therefore, amazing acting performances, very intelligent filming, beautiful pictures, everything is at its right place, even all the silent instants were incredibly well designed.

And finally: Fear the music moments.
The music (Will Bates) is also here to threaten you. Well done. I was indeed very scared!

What else?

Only this :
Everything was so well written that it's close to a Masterpiece.
(Oui, Pierre! Un Chef-d'Oeuvre!)
Can I say that?

Oh yes, I can. :D
Bravo! Jessica Goldberg!
Standing Ovation!
